Common Questions

  • Therapy is a space to talk through what’s going on in your life with someone who is there to listen, understand, and support you. It can help you make sense of your experiences, better understand your thoughts, emotions, and patterns, and work through things that feel overwhelming or hard to carry on your own.

  • In the first session, I’ll ask some questions to get to know you, your history, and what is bringing you to therapy at this time. You don’t have to answer anything you’re not comfortable sharing—we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you. We’ll also review consent to treatment, the limits of confidentiality, and practice policies, and begin to get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit.

  • The therapeutic relationship is a really important part of therapy, and a lot of research shows how much it impacts the process. A lot of this comes down to how it feels—whether you feel comfortable, understood, and able to be yourself.

If I’m not the right fit for you, I won’t be offended. Please feel free to let me know, and I’ll do my best to help you find someone who is better suited to your needs.

  • A lot of people come in not knowing where to start. We can take it one step at a time, and I’ll help guide the conversation in a way that feels manageable. You don’t have to talk about everything right away—we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you.

  • There’s no set timeline for therapy. Some people come for a shorter period to work through something specific, while others engage in longer-term work. We’ll check in over time and adjust based on what feels helpful and meaningful for you.

(This refers to overall length of therapy - each session is 50 minutes)

  • I offer both in-person and virtual sessions, depending on what works best for you. For virtual sessions, you must be located in Nova Scotia at the time of the appointment.

  • I ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, or missed appointments, will be charged the full session fee. I understand that life happens—please contact me as soon as possible to let me know and discuss your situation. Exceptions may be made in some cases.

  • If schools are cancelled due to weather, the clinic will also be closed. In these cases, you may have the option to switch your session to virtual if you’d like.

If the clinic remains open but you feel unsafe traveling due to road conditions, please reach out and we can discuss rescheduling or switching to a virtual appointment.

  • While I’m here to support you in our work together, this practice is not able to provide crisis support. If you are in immediate distress or need urgent help, please contact local emergency services or a crisis line in your area. In Nova Scotia, you can call the Mental Health Crisis Line at 1-888-429-8167, or 911 if this is an emergency.

  • You can reach out by email to ask any questions or to book an initial session. From there, we’ll find a time that works and take it one step at a time.
